Bark or Bite?

By: Elvish Kitty

It came to me the other day that I have frequently made comments such as "Well, if he/she tries anything, I'll kick their ass" and other various statements of bravado. It is only now that I am wondering if I actually would, or if my bark is much bigger than my bite, as the saying goes.

I have had training in martial arts, but probably not enough to actually do some damage. I do know a few different ways of killing someone, but I don't think that I could actually do it unless pressed to do so by circumstances which involve things such as war and/or a desparate need to rid the world of a major pain in the ass/psychopathic killer. I would love to learn archery and rifelry, and other such sports, but I don't think that I could actually shoot something. I saw a moth dying in a window and wanted to run before I started crying.

It is strange, then, why I sometimes make comments that could possibly lead me into a situation in which I could find myself either defending one of my friends or hurting someone. I wonder why I do this...

I have come to the conclusion that humans, such as myself, say things such as this in order to create the illusion that we are actually more powerful than others think. Many people have done this and will continue to do this. There are actually several recorded examples of the enlarging of one's persona in order to have a large population of people believe a lie.

They are:

  1. God the Father
  2. Ramses II of Egypt
  3. Moses
  4. God the Son
  5. President Clinton
  6. God the Holy Ghost
  7. Any King/Queen in the history of England

The list, as you may have guessed, can only get bigger, but I think I'll leave it at that for now. I, like every other student, have the insufferable burden of homework that I need to get to. I simply thought that this little comment might be worth something to somebody somewhere. Maybe, maybe not.

Some people, oddly enough, do not seem to feel the need to augment themselves or create a facade. I, myself, can say that the closest I can come is a sort of screen. An opaque layer of anti-aura that sheilds me from the world and the world from me. The spirit inside is potent, and that is as it should be. I challenge all of you out there to say only what you intend to back up, and back up what you say. It's possible.

*sighs* I can argue all three God ones. If you'd like me to do so, I'd be more than happy to. Either I'll email it to you or I can post it on here. Just let me know. *smiles*

Mr. Prophet, I know you personally, and I know that you DO make ego-embiggining attempts all the time. At least, in your guise as Linky.

Ryannie, I have to say, you are deluding yourself, my child. Think carefully. I joke, yes. Seriously boast? No. Never. Why would I? I would have no use for a false facade of force. You've just hit on the one fault that I don't have. Want to find something wrong with me? Try again. I'm sure it won't be hard :)

Linky, you have just proved my point. Read what you wrote and try to picture yourself as someone else. "The one fault I don't have"...sure...that's not boasting...I believe you. Honest.
