You Name It, You're the Smart Ass - Issue 1

It's April
It's Snowin'
And Dairy Queen is open

I'm sure all of you out there (because I know there are so many) who look forward to reading my witty and intelligently written ravings have been feeling deprived since I disappeared a few months ago, but now it's time to get down to business.

Business...

First of all, who is this new "Conor" fellow, and why is he trying to take my place? I was horrified to see how easily he dethroned me as the king of this place? I didn't think Darryl would turn on me so easily. (Begin Ass Kissing) Seriously though, Conor seems like he knows his stuff, and is perfect for writing about music, or anything else... (End Ass Kissing)

I am now in a band. I wouldn't call us serious, for now we are mostly a novelty act but in the past few days I have written many songs, and am becoming quite interested in making music. There's just something about writing my thoughts down, that makes me feel relaxed. I'm happy I've found a way to express myself, other than writing on this website, which I've been lax in doing.

I'd like to take a moment to comment on the weather. WHAT THE HELL?!!!. When cold weather leaves and you have some pretty good weather for about a month, you're not supposed to get a big frigging snow storm when April rolls around. I think someone somewhere is trying to screw with our heads, or maybe it's natures way of playing an April fools joke on us.

There is a certain girl at my school who I'm convinced is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Everything about her is perfect, and she's also smart and not a bitch. I didn't think that was possible, but I guess it is. I don't think I'll ever be able to ask her out unless I'm really drunk and she's around. Talk about needing confidence. Please I beg of you, if you happen to have an extra spine lying around, please send it to me. I am in desparate need of one. I think Darryl and Conor would both appreciate one as well. I didn't say that.

I'm the laziest person you will ever meet. I talk of finding employment but I never go and make anything of it. I'm convinced I will be forced into finding employment sometime in the near future. I guess my parents hounding me all the time has finally gotten to me. And with the advantages of working (having money --> getting to buy what I want) are quite nice. One more thing, I got a funky new haircut instead of my usual mushroom. Let's just say it looks like I don't brush my hair anymore. Nevertheless, I love it.

Music...

I am utterly and totally obsessed with everything relating to music now. It's all that I do. At school, while I'm doing homework, when I'm in bed, in the bathroom, it seems as if everything I do is motivated by music. I'm even learning every piece of information about the bands that I enjoy listening to. It's turning into an obsession. It makes me want to write songs, gives me energy etc. I guess what I'm saying is, without music (and girls) I would cease to exist. My tastes in music are becoming much more diverse as well. Although I must say, I think the Red Hot Chili Peppers are one of the greatest bands of all time. There's so many other great bands, that I can't possibly list them all. How about I explain what I hate about the music industry instead.

'N Sync

Wow. They broke Industry records last week by selling 2.9 million copies of their latest record(No Strings Attached), in the United States alone, and about 6.4 million worldwide (If I'm wrong, please correct me I got this information from MTV). They are very attractive young men, they can sing, and they're rich. All of that means nothing to me. As Liam Gallagher said on Total Request Live (a show on MTV) earlier this week in response to 'N Syncs success, "It's not about selling records, it's about being real". Liam received much applause from the crowd, and I think he deserved it.

With so many boybands out there, storming the music industry and causing young girls hearts to throb, no one seems to realize that their music isn't going to matter in less that one year. "Bye Bye Bye!" isn't going to have the same affect on people's lives as, for instance "Stairway to Heaven" did. There needs to be a rock revolution to end the terrible the reign of the boy bands. My hopes may be coming true already, though. Rock bands who make meaningful music, are finally starting to get more attention. Not so much that they become over-played, but enough to please me. I knew rock would come back with force one day, and I hate to say it but I like <c>Rap much better that those "I love you girl" "My groin's aching for you girl" "You drive my crazy" bands. I guess the almighty dollar does win over everything else. Like giving bands who write their own music are talented, and are not mindless drones a chance.

The End?

Wow, this is getting way too long. I think I'll stop going on and on and on for now, I probably should have made the music issue into a separate article/rant. Hopefully, I won't get lazy and not write anything for a while again. I think I might follow up on this music issue in more detail later. For now, I bid all my loyal readers, yes all nine of you, adios.

I love snow as well, but not when nice weather's been around. Snow can't just appear out of nowhere ,it messes my whole cycle up.

hey... first of all, you must take the advice of anyone who tells you to listen to tool. secondly, i'm also obsessed with music and think that we're in need of a huge revolution, but one must consider that every time a wave of good music hits and does well the demand goes up, the market swells to accommodate it and good bands are eventually replaced by cheap rip-offs.

Wonderful comments. I totally understand your view on music and the uprising of all the industry made "boy bands". I personally hate studio bands who have been created by record industry hotshots to sell records, but like you put it "it's all about the money." I really wish the recording industry could see that their business is about the music and not the money, but they like money as much as I do...so that's never going to happen. Bands who aren't marketable won't get the chances that they deserve, unless they have an in.
