Mike's Top 10 Concerts

Ok, so I went to see TOOL last night... and I figured that I've been to enough concerts that I should put together a top 10 list that I've been to. On the topic of the concert last night though... I have to say that it was really really good. 'Twas my "virgin" TOOL experience, and I was thoroughly impressed. The only thing I was upset about was the fact that my ticket said the doors opened at 8pm, so I show up at 8. I get in about 8:30ish after waiting in line to get frisked and crap... turns out that the opening band "Tomohawk" went on at 7:30 because the doors opened at 6:30. I didn't miss any tool, but I really wanted to see Mike Patton (Member of such bands as Mr. Bungle and Faith No More). I did enjoy the fact that he came out on stage and played with TOOL for a few songs though.
Ok, so on with the list.
- 10 - Garbage (November 7, 1998)
Two days after the first concert I ever went to (Not counting local bands and stuff like that) I went to go see Garbage. This was the first time I ever got into a real mosh pit and got my ass kicked. I enjoyed it... even went crowd surfing and almost got kicked out of the show. I made it right up to the front, got crushed by the crowd against the barrier... but Shirley Manson is HOT up close. Man. - 9 - Depeche Mode, Stabbing Westward (Novenber 5, 1998)
This was the first "real" concert I ever went to. I'm glad it was a band as good as Depeche Mode. Really, I went to go see Stabbing Westward, even though nobody in the crowd really knew who they were. My friend Peter and I were shouting our lungs while they were playing and everyone else kinda looked at us funny. But it was great! - 8 - Stabbing Westward, Placebo (March 19, 1999)
Stabbing Westward is still one of my favourite bands... it's a shame most bands I love seem to be underrated. Ah well. This one really kicked ass because, on the topic of kicking, I got kicked in the head during Placebo and my glasses fell off and got crunched... Well, I came out of the pit because it sucked... and there's Stabbing Westward right there! So I got to have a good chat with them. Wonderful people they are. -
7 - Deftones (July 17, 2000)
I got this ticket because someone else couldn't go to a show, but it turned out absolutely wonderful. Some guy in line offered to smoke Drew and I up, which he did as soon as we got inside, we saw a cool band called Glassjaw play, and it was the Deftones! Glassjaw is way better live than the CD is (Drew bought it). I think the production quality was just really low though... that's what you get when you don't have money for good production. -
6 - Summersault 2000 (August 11, 2000)
I just gotta say this was the best lineup of bands I EVER saw. Including Our Lady Peace, The Smashing Pumpkins, A Perfect Circle, Finger Eleven, and more. This was the first and last time I ever saw the Pumpkins... and it made me wish I had been able to see more. Amazing live show. To this day I still own no Pumpkins CDs though... strange. -
5 - Jimmy Eat World (July 10, 2002)
To tell you the truth, I really didn't know much about Jimmy Eat World when I went to this show. I had only heard a couple singles and I really despised "In The Middle", their radio savvy single. You can read about that in a news article I posted a wee bit ago. The live stuff was very very good, and the older stuff they played really hooked me on the band. -
4 - VAST, Queens of the Stone Age (October 1, 2000)
I don't care for the Queens of the Stone Age at all. Personally, they sucked ASS. The reason I went to this show was for VAST, and only for VAST. Friggin Queens played for like 2 1/2 hours... and most of it was just jamming. It pissed me off a lot because I wasn't there to see them. If VAST wasn't coming on I would have gone home. But really... he's a very very good musician. Many people haven't heard of him, but I recommend checking his site out at least. -
3 - Korn, Rob Zombie (March 15, 1999)
This show was only displaced from the #2 spot just yesterday. I enjoyed Rob Zombie much more than Korn. Korn was ok, especially when the bagpipes came out... but nothing can beat giant robots and lots of fire on stage. Enough said. -
2 - TOOL, Tomahawk (August 25, 2002)
This show was REALLY REALLY good. Despite the fact that I missed Tomahawk, TOOL was unbelievable. Read above for more information. -
1 - Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle (April 28, 2000)
This show was my absolute favourite EVER. I can't even put into words how great it was. Trent Reznor is the King of music. Everything transferred over live much better than I ever expected. I also got to hear "SIN", "Terrible Lie", and "Head Like a Hole"... three of my favourites. A Perfect Circle also kicked ass. The CD wasn't released at this time, but one of the producers had given my friend Drew a copy of the CD beforehand, so I knew all the songs. It was kinda funny because nobody else knew who they were.
On a closing note, I should add some of the worst concerts I've ever attended. They include (in no particular order):
U2 - Elevation Tour (What a mistake...Puke)
Janet Jackson (Anniversary Present for my GF... what a sacrifice)
Edgefest 1999 (It rained all day... and it was cold)
Edgefest 2002 (The lineup sucked ASS... and so did Cake)
Bush (These guys suck ass. What can I expect for a free concert)
Ok, that's it. Hope you enjoy.

Cool... :) I'd still rate the Korn show I saw up on my list... mostly because of the atmosphere mind you, but korn was still decent... and now that I remember it there was no opening band... it was just Korn...

I haven't even been to ten concerts. I did see a Bob Dylan concert, though. All the others just sucked.... including the Bush concert I saw (Ack).
