Annoying Websites Suck
Now, before going off half cocked and spurting all over the place, I'd like to point out that I in no way consider myself to be a super-duper-top-of-the-line-amazing-website designer.
I'm sure a lot, if not most, of you will agree that websites can be extremely annoying when people (who get paid too much money) put in all the little things that they think people want to see in a website. So I have compiled a short list of things that make websites suck.
- Splash Screen Flash
You know, those stupid things that come up when you go to a site, that plays loud music and "dazzles" you before you're completely dissapointed with the actual site that follows. In most cases I'm quick to "skip" when the options is there. But some cases, god, burn these people. Another point with these, when you've got a splash screen - set a fucking cookie so next time I come by, I don't have to see it. Also, sites with initial language selectors - they need to research and use cookies too. - Slow Loading Menus
Sure, fancy menus are ok. Drop down java script ones and silent flash ones are a-ok. However, if I the user have to wait to wait and watch as your menu system builds the "trees" or downloads more flash files, I'm going to get annoyed. Wham bam, thank you ma'am. You know what I'm talking about? FAST MENUS. They are possible. Do some research, you get paid enough. - Background Music and Sound FX!
I don't want to hear anything from a site unless I click on something that says "listen to this sound!". Naturally icons of speakers and what not to signify an audio piece is acceptable as well. However, when I load your site I don't want to hear a crappy-ass midi playing. 99% of the time I'm listening to what I want to listen to and I don't need you trying to make me listen to what you want me to listen to. Ok? Outstanding. Menu oriented sound FX also suck, so stick them up your asses. - Flashing Strobing Crap and banners
BAD. BAD. BAD. Annoying Flash type stuff to get my attention gives me a headache. Flash stuff should be smooth and easy and make one say "wow that's nice!". As for Crappy banners trying to get my attention by telling me my computer is infected, or my computer isn't fast enough, or I've won $50 billion dollars are annoying as well. I can handle the occasional banner ad but these are stupid. Quite frankly if you're running a site and feel that its costing you so much money that you need to stoop to these crappy annoying hardly-pay-you-anything banners you're a) cheap, b) stupid, c) inconsiderate, d) all of the above - I'd recommend stepping 10 feet back from your computer and looking at the shit you're trying to spew upon the world and if you don't see it, flush your computer down your toilet.
That's all I can think of for now of course. I think you all should put what annoys you down in ye ol' babble section.
Just remember that although many people do have high speed, plenty still don't. You should still be aiming to design streamlined quick to load sites regardless of ones connection. Clean up the 'net! Make it safer for my brain.
Time for me to clean up some shit too. PoC Main page is gettin huge! :P

What annoys me more than anything are web sites that are useless. I consider most web sites to be useless. I use the world wide webe (weeb) as a tool, primarily; I don't really have time for anything else. When I visit a web site, chances are I'm looking for a piece of information. If that piece of information is to do with a product or service I may wish to purchase from [INSERT NAME OF COMPANY WITH PATHETIC, USELESS WEB SITE HERE] *cough* INTEL *cough*, nothing could piss me off more than being unable to find said information. The percentage of corporate web sites that are huge, flashy, busy looking, confusing, and generally anything but useful is far, far too great.
