Work Sucks

For the duration of time I've been in the "other" department at work I've never really been formally trained or informed of who's rank is what and the process of getting things done...
So I asked, when I started, who I thought was in charge if it was ok if I came in early once a week and she said "yeah, it's ok as long as there's an available spot on the shift before yours, but just tell the department head" ok! Cool! I tell him he says "ok cool!" all is well. I leave early one day a week for 4 of the 6 weeks.
So, 6 weeks after the fact the midnight supervisor gets questioned by the department head as to why I leave early and the midnight supervisor explains in full and everything seems cool again. (it's unclear as to why the question suddenly came up other than the self explanitory "brain fart", but meh.)
I left early once on week 7, and none on week 8.
So, now 8 weeks after the fact I remind the afternoon supervisor that I'll be in early and she gives me shit for not "clearing this" with the department head. . I walk away to an echo of "I'm serious Darryl!" -- well so am I, but in a different way.
Working for a company is in fact a privilege, but having a person work for you (the company) is also a privilege. If at any time this relationship becomes a hassle and no feasible solution is available it is always best to part ways. Less stress that way, yo. And I, as an employee, will part at the drop of the hat should this job become a hassle, when I see that what I do is not a hassle to the job.
I was quite pissed, but thankfully my brainpower channeled into what would be a 1:45am powerfailure that lasted for just over an hour. Long enough to get us all sent home.
This is week 9, maybe I'll just call in sick. After all, I get hassled for leaving early [not even] once a week and others can take 15 minute breaks on the hour without anything said. And others can call in sick 3 days a week and still have a job the next week. Fuck I hate office polotics.
Werd.

If that doesn't work...kill the buggers >:)
But in a manner which doesn't leave a) witnesses, and b) you with charges. Which ties into a). Now there's a challenge >:)

haha hah hahahaha ha.
I don't believe there is even an HR department. the extent of it would be one person, maybe two.
Regardless of that fact, it doesn't matter who you tell what it all ends up in the same bit of steaming shit.
Personally, if I were in charge, I'd be firing a lot of people. But that won't happen either.

I'm serious Darryl (heheh), before considering leaving an employer, I believe as an employee, you have the responsibility to the company to use the avenues they provide to you to clear up any mishaps; they are typically of human-error in nature, but sometimes systematic. For instance, if you are "supposed" to funnel your questions, complaints, and suggestions to your immediate supervisor, do so. If, however, nothing is done at that level, go up a rung. Hopefully the company will have an open-door policy where you can just go chat about a supposed event at a hypothetical company and see what can be done about it, were such an unseemly event (*shock*) to occur in the company you work for. Heavens above!
For instance, when I got my semi-annual review at a company I used to work for, I felt I was seriously cheated of my hard earned 5/5 rating. My last review had earned me a 4/5 as a low level employee, a beginner, but after taking on 4 management level positions simutaneously, while performing beyond peer and management expectations, I knew I'd earned a 5/5, since 20 other employees at my rank who weren't doing management duties, worked less than I did, had less responsibility, but had seniority, earned a 5/5. I go to see if my immediate supervisor is willing to back my claim, go to bat for me, and get things straightened out. Swing batta. Then I went to my supervisor's boss. Swing batta. Then I went to the top of the division and... was stonewalled before I could get anywhere else by middle management. I brought in HR after 3 months unacceptable delay. This... took a great amount of patience and as management liked to say: "faith" in the system. I didn't get anywhere in the end but, the HR director I met with, who earned an MBA, suggested in a manner of speaking, the following: [paraphrased] "If you use what tools are laid before to reach your objective, and fail, try again. Then, go under, around, flank the goal, go over obsticles, make up new tools, bend the rules, but if in the end you cannot reach your goal... you must consider reaching the same goal, elsewhere." In a nice, professional, abstract, rational analysis of the situation, I was encouraged to take myself elsewhere; not because I wasn't worthy to be where I was, but because I deserved to be in a better place -- having exhausted my resources. After informing my superiors of my official intent to leave, some asked me to stay and have faith in the system. I am an atheist and do not believe in denying facts that are laid out before me. I know systems are not perfect, but they can be used effectively when the right people control the flow. But the best laid plans go out the window if you do not have the right people in place. Companies do not make millions of dollars, the people at the companies make the millions of dollars come to the company. People over plans.
So see what you can do, remember your role as a low level employee but also remember what it is you deserve, see if it is the system making the problems, like a malfunctioning communication system, if it is the people getting in the way, or if God has some grudge. But you owe it to yourself to give things your best.
