So I'm doing some Latin and I come across two quotes that I thought were worth posting. So, here they are, only one of which is translated. I have also decided to include a beautiful anglicized version of portion of something entitled "Catullus 64". Basically, I'm feeling creative and while this isn't my work, the 1st translation is my own, the second this the work of Dr. Murgatroyd. As for the dominant theme, what can I say but that I am a closet Romantic and I find Catullus, at least the English version (I'm not advanced enough yet to read through the original Latin), to be breathtaking. Enjoy.
uarium et mutabile semper femina. (Vergil)
difficile est longum subito deponere amorem. (Catullus) - It is difficult to suddenly lay aside a long lasting love [affair].
'For there, looking out from the wave-sounding shore of Naxos, Ariadne with the wild frenzy of love in her heart gazes at Theseus sailing away on his swift ship; even now she does not believe what is before her eyes, naturally as she has only just woken from treacherous sleep ans sees hereself abandoneed, miserable, on the lonely shore. With no thought for her Theseus flees, his oars beating the waves, leaving behind his empty promises for the gale to dissipate. From afar, from the seaweed-line, the princess, like a marble statue of a bacchante, stares at him, ah, stares at him with sad eyes and is tossed on great waves of anguished emotions. She has lost the delicate headband from her blonde hair and the light dress that covered her chest and the smooth band that bound her milk-white breasts - all these garments have fallen from her and the waves are playing with them at her feet. But at that moment she did not care about her floating dress and headband, but, ruined, she was hanging on you, Theseus, with all her mind, all her heart, all her soul.'
Oh yeah. No qualifier for this romantic stuff other than as noted above, I'll feeling that way. Of course by tomorrow night...the femine side will again disappear and the load and boisterous masculinity will come firing out... Go Sens.
