Preview?

This could be a preview though I'm not sure if it's the language that I want and blah blah blah. But, there's a good chance something like this will appear and I would probably make this the introduction. Enjoy. Violence and soft porn all in one!

Morning, August 9, anno domini 378.

I took a long deep breath and closed my eyes. As my chest rose with the rush of air, I again opened my eyes and starred across the field. There had been talk that there were reinforcements under Gratian hurrying to help steal our triumph. But others retorted that this was nothing but a lie drummed up by our noble Eastern Emperor Valens so that he might win the day alone. Me, myself, lowly soldier, miles away from my wife and kid, simply clamoured for the opportunity to send these Goths back whence they came. I only want to see my family once more. My friend had said that we outnumbered them 3 to 1 and that the battle would be over before we knew it. This was why we had laboured under the punishing sun in Thrace and marched to battle. It was time to seize the moment – or so he said. I have my doubts.

And yet, nothing had happened for a few minutes. These temperatures were more than I could bear and thus far the battle had not commenced. I grew weary. My armour got heavier with every passing moment. I found myself reaching under my helmet to wipe my eyes and forehead more times than I could count. My vision was impaired and if nothing happened soon I feared that my body would not be up to the task. And then the orders came.

We were to march to the enemy camp using as much speed as possible. The baggage was to be left as is in our moveable encampment. And then we were off. Minutes soon dragged to hours and our pace did not weaken. If the heat had not affected me before, it certainly did now. The sun had reached its zenith and our Lord continued to send down insufferable heat. We were GodÂ’s soldiers and yet I could not fathom why he would punish us with such conditions. But, as I said, I am but a soldier and it is not a soldierÂ’s place to question the Almighty. And so we marched.

Finally, after miles of an exhausting approach and in the eighth hour, the Goth camp drew on the horizon. We were sent into reserve and our cavalries took their positions on the flanks. All was still and the barbarians began to hurl insults our way. But, they spoke in a heathen tongue and so their words merely bounced off our armour. And then the flags dropped and our arrows whizzed over hard, flying through the air towards the enemies. I could see a great deal of movement and it started to seem as though my friend had been right. I quickly turned my head to him and he flashed me a smile and gave me a wink. I shook my head and turned back to face the Goths.

At this point I could not have been happier at the onset of battle. My stomach twisted and turned, growling further with every passing second. The heat now was unbearable. Moreover, the barbarians had taken it upon themselves to set the grasses alight in the early August Thracian afternoon sun. I could feel my breaths coming more quickly now and my heart, already beating a steady rate, began to accelerate. If only I could have a drinkÂ…

Suddenly a load shout arose from the ranks and some or our men ran towards our opponents. However, their advance was met and they were soon put to flight. In terror they returned to our side and it seemed that this had not been part of our attack. I looked all around me and many men, weary through the morningÂ’s march and the everlasting sun, seemed stunned by this omen. And now my heart raced and I tried taking deep breaths. Inhale. Pause. Exhale. Pause. Inhale. Pause. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Oh shit!!!!

And suddenly they were upon us. I released my sword and with my companions charged the field. All around me the sound of weapons on armour clanged. There were numerous thunderous crashes that the languished cries of Roman and Goth alike. I felt weighted down by my armour and my legs were like jelly. I could see nothing on either side but only the Germans ahead. My eyes blurred as sweat poured down my face. “Arrghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!” I yelled as I sprinted through the grass in what felt like the fires of hell. Within moments I was swinging my sword this way and that cutting down foes at all sides. But then more Goth reinforcements arrived and they pushed us back. I continued to lunge, pull, slash, and charge. The clanging continued and I was stunned to hear a hideous yell to my right. My heart nearly stopped and in terror and I pivoted and swung. The sword was strong and true, slicing through the mid-section of my would-be murderer. As my steel met his flesh, his blood spurted onto my armour and into my eyes, further obstructing my vision. Alarmed, I made a wild swipe with my left arm to rid my eyes of the enemy’s blood. A half-second later a shout rose among the Goths and our ranks were pushed back. And then, horror of horrors, our left wing was crushed by their numbers and we stood unprotected. Soon we were crammed in together. I tried to move but instead felt my companions pushing all around. I couldn’t move and I couldn’t breathe. And, as if it couldn’t get any worse, I heard some more shouting and Germans began pouring over the hills. There were, 100’s, no 1000’s of long-haired freaks barreling down on us and yet he we were, hemmed in with nowhere to go.

They started cutting down men left and right. I looked in horror as friend after friend fell around me. By this time my eyes were all but sealed with fluids and panic began to settle in. My breathing accelerated and was increasingly laboured. I tried to move, to swing, to help, but still I could not move. There was nowhere to go! What could I do! I could barely move, let alone fight! Surely God would save us! And then I turned to see a German on horseback swing and I frozeÂ…

With one powerful motion he had llopped off my neighbour’s head. It bounced off my shoulder and the back of my helmet. After his swing he recoiled and butted me in the head. Unexpectedly I felt part of helmet pushing against my skin. The pressure was intense and soon blood began to drip down my hair and cheek. I found myself a bit woozy and my thoughts drifted to my family. My knees gave out and I crumpled to my knees. Soon I was on all fours and as I struggled for air there was a horrendous blow to my back and I was left sprawling on my back. Bodies and soldiers fell and lay all around me. My breathing continued to accelerate and then just like that, it slowed. I looked above and cried out to God – but my voice was only a whisper, drowned in the unspeakable screams of friend and foe alike. I stretched my arms heavenward to Jesus and prayed yet again that I might see my family again. Then, two bodies, one Goth and one Roman landed on my stomach. My breath escaped and my eyes closed.

In this quiet calm I felt myself soaring over land and sea. I could see my wife and my daughter. The three of us embraced. Next I was in bed with my dear Capurnia. We lay unclothed and I held a small flower in my right hand. Resting on my left arm and shoulder I slowly and gently pulled the flower from her navel to her toes. I could feel her energy and see her passion as she desperately grasped the sheets and screamed into the night. With a surge of ardour she threw her arms around my naked back and pulled me against her. I lay on top and lowered my lips onto hers. I closed my eyes and we kissedÂ…our lips locked seemingly forever. Gradually I raised my lips from hers and opened my eyesÂ…

I started to find myself pinned beneath yet more bodies. My breathing still remained slow and my vision was blurry. The heat continued to attack us all, yet I felt a cool chill through my bones. With tremendous effort I pushed against my human stones and managed to push them off. Elated, I struggled to my knees, pulse quickening and heart rate hurrying. With great deliberation I raised my head and turned to see a sword flying towards my neckÂ…
