Banks

In July of this year, my mother, husband and myself found a house that was agreeable to all of us and decided to go ahead and apply for a mortgage. To our surprise we were approved within that same week and put our notice in at our apartment building etc etc. We've been a frenzy of packing, finding a lawyer and changing address information. You know, the usual stuff.

We wanted to get a mortgage with Bank Of Nova Scotia because they had an offer of no downpayment, and although we had that money together we decided that it would be better to put that money into the house in repairs, fence and what not. When we went to the mortgage brokers a month ago to sign some papers she told us that the bank had suggested that my mother pay off her mastercard. Her mastercard had the whopping balance of $25.00. Being that the broker told us it was suggested, Mom didn't bother paying it because it's 25 bucks I mean come on. We recieve a call on Friday saying that if she didn't pay off this 25 we wouldn't be fulfilling the "conditions" of our mortgage agreement, and the deal would be called off and void. Why someone is going to go nuts over such a small sum of money I don't know but mom paid it off.

Next comes their demands to see information about my mother's personal savings account that has nothing to do with the money to do with our house. They already had the information about the account where they would be taking their payments from but they wanted to know how much she had in her account for whatever reason. Though annoyed, mom again complies and sends them this information. Sure enough the beginning of this week they call her and say they want the info again, an " update". How much more updated do you need then last week? Mom tells them that it has nothing to do with the house so forget it they can just use what they have and go to hell.

Wednesday, broker calls me. " Um Hi I just wanted to let you know that the bank is going to pull out of the mortgage, I'm fighting on your behalf" The reason they want to pull our of the deal when we are nine days away from moving, and will have no where to live??? " We have been very busy and haven't had the time to look over the deal!!!!" Excuse me?!?!?! So you haven't had time to look the details over, details that they have had since July and details that should have been looked at before they told us that yes infact we were approved. An approval that meant we went about our lives and got ready to move and now 9 days before this move say no sorry we are pulling out. I DON'T THINK SO!

After much fighting they have agreed, and various threats of lawsuits on our end, and have sent us a copy of the final approval. Well I should think so. Can you imagine telling people, sorry you have no place to live, sorry we told you yes you could have the house, sorry we didn't do our job when we should have, and how we should have looked of it immediately instead of just now.Too bad people that think sold their house, and how we have no possibly screwed up their lives too. I would have been living in some family's basement, cardboard box or better yet, MY CAR, cause of these assholes. That hasn't to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard, and not just that but the worst business sense. Needless to say I wouldn't suggest the bank of nova scotia as reliable source of a mortgage, well I guess that statement isn't entirely true. They might give you a mortgage, but they might yank your chain a few times and screw you in the end. Apparently Lou works with someone that had this happen to them too. Right now my nerves are so shot that I just want to say screw all this, screw moving, packing, organizing help, signing papers and I'll just rot.

You didn't elaborate on how much of the foul up the mortgage broker took part in. They suggested, your mom pay off a $25 credit card bill, Was that so they could cancel the card and lower her borrowing ratios?
