Politics: Useless or Impotent?

By: Quigley
on Thursday, February 26th 2004 at 11:33am

To the common man, to myself, and to everyone else, I say these things: You wish not to become a parent, or to carry a child? Don't have sex. Don't want lung cancer? Stop smoking. Want a liver when you're past 50? Stop drinking. Don't wanna be a fat guy? Get off your ass. Dissatisfied with the price of education? Educate yourself. With the price of medicine? Become a doctor.

I am sick and tired of the socialist bullshit that surrounds me. I am not your workhorse. I belong to me; not to you. I am thankful for the help society has given me, and I am more than willing to pay taxes until I am satisfied beyond any doubt that I have repaid my debt to this country and to the world as a whole. After that? Fuck you all. I don't care. You can wither and die by your own incompetence and your own lack of will, and if I do nothing to help, it will only be your punishment for feeding yourselves of my productivity. And that of my parents. And their parents. And, no doubt, my children and their children also.

Sometimes homeless people ask me for money. Often they have more of it than I do already. And yet society sees them as the victim and me the agressor. Somehow through earning money instead of taking it, I have done some wrong to these poor helpless souls. And by paying taxes I can cleanse myself of the sordid wrongfulness of my productivity and workmanship, and share the fruits of my own labour with those who obviously deserve it far more than I do.

I will spend my life paying taxes into an educational system which will not suffice to educate my own children. Then I will pay a private school to do it properly. I will spend much of my life paying into a government pension plan which I will not benefit from, as it will be bankrupted two generations ahead of me. I will continue to pay for public radio and television. I do not own a television. And yet you tell me I am a fool for not seeing the righteousness in this. If that makes me a fool, than a fool I am and a fool I would rather be than a human, for humans are helpless, whining creatures, that can do nothing for themselves.

So, yes, on to politics. Everyone disagrees with me. What the hell am I supposed to do? Socialism works for everyone, right? Equality for everyone, right?? Where is my share of the equality, you lying bastards? Where is my say? Why is there no political party for my views? Should not society supply me with one, as it supplies you all with everything else? Politics is wrong. Not one political system or another, but the entire concept. There is no correct way to rule another person without their consent. It cannot be done justly. Who are you to say that you know better? You are no more than I, friend, and I say you do not. If there was a system that could work, it would already be in place. But it is not, and there is not, and that is that. It's not philosophy that has to be fixed in order for justice to be done in the world. It is people that must be fixed. And I gave up on that a long time ago.

I agree with you on several points, less so on some minor others, but I think I know what the government would have to say as a rebuttle: Don't like it? Go to another country.

What have you to say to this? You could go into politics with the ambition to change the government! :-)

To a degree, that response would seem correct. I've thought this one over for quite some time, though, and what I came up with is this:

I would submit that all land is ruled, and that all ruled land was acquired through force and violence, and probably unjustly so. Does superior firepower in the past give one the right to dictate the nature and direction of life in the present? I think not. It gives them the means, but not the right.

As for Canada, I think you may have misunderstood. My complaints are in an absolute frame of reference; not a relative one. I do not doubt that Canada is among the best places in the world to live. I simply question that it is as good as it should be. :)

Hee hee hee!

I should print this out and put it up all over skoo so that all those idiots there who think socialism is a good thing can read it and get their knickers in a twist. >:)

They won't say 'go to another country', they'd lose income. They'd say "here, have a cookie and shut up." ;)

Perhaps it works for fat vagrants in ostentatious garb with odd methods of entrance and hovering ruminants awaiting, but I am not so easily dissuaded from my quest for justice ;P

I think you are some of the smartets people I have every "read". And I really mean that. Hello. My name is Robert Albel, and I am running for office in the ward 4 of Smithsby. I would like to know what issues you feel should be addressed by newly elected officials representing the youth of our community. Would you please write to me with your ideas? I am currently staying at my late winter home in Toronto. Here is my address.

329 MUTUAL ST
TORONTO ON M4Y 1X6

Your input is most welcome and greatly appreciated.

Dear asstrams:

Violence must be stamped out with an iron fist. Summary executions for the obviously guilty of murder, rape, gang violence, etc.

Then again, as a councillor I'm not certain they'll let you do that. Doh! :)

Wombed as we are with the 'socialist' welfare state, it is difficult to imagine arriving as an 'emergency' at a hospital and being turned away, not covered by insurance - a daily occurrance in the US. 9/11 and its devastating economic and unemployment fallout has brought home the plight of 40 million, uninsured.
