Bell Needs an Enima

As previously stated ( Bell mobility was having some issues... They had decided to upgrade their billing system. They also decided it would be really good to not tell anybody and take three months to do it. During that time they also withheld any invoices. I finally got my bill from May 25th today on July 23rd. There was a little notice included "The new customer care and billing system has arrived!"

As an eager beaver I read through it and sure enough All account numbers have changed, so I'm glad I didn't pay them over the time -- Even though they state they'll make sure payments hit the right accounts, do you really think it will? Given the completely ass-backwards over complicated methods that they seem to be implimenting on running their business it's of no wonder to myself why they have the troubles they have.

The info sheet that I got also said I could login to eCare using my existing bell.ca username and password via www.bell.ca/login/ -- So I went, and sure enough my login worked. Extremly slowly*. I got a list of my existing accounts which is one. This is only the parent site -- this site has always worked throughout their "upgrade". I clicked on the link to manage my cell phone -- and voila. A new Upgraded error. At least its better than the old message on their old system saying I was "Ron Howard."

There's more though. A couple of weeks ago I set out to setup a dialup account for a client. Out of the sake of simplicity we thought it'd be smart to just use one of the available cds dropped off in the mail. So Sympatico it would be. After installing I ended up with three usernames and passwords for various parts of the sympatico system. It was up and running. Except a day later it wasn't working. As it turns out bells software was reconfiguring the computer (via it's "Smart" update) to the wrong settings -- the CDs were obsolete -- even though they were just sent out. That's what happens when you "partner up" with MSN.ca.

Good Job Bell. You have yet again proven that as a large, multi billion dollar, monopolistic** company, you are completely incompitant.

the fine print

* there's two theories on slowness - one: I use rogers. Bell hates rogers. two: I use linux. Bell is in bed with Microsoft.

** although it's not really a monopoly, it's one built around laziness of society and lack of competative options - and lack of cell phone number portability.

I'll let you know how the Manitoba Telephone System (MTS) out here is for cell phones. I got one for my birthday (I pay the monthly bills), with a simple plan (200 min a month any time), and a simple phone (monochrome between different backlights, mono sound, no extra shiny features), and I've used all of 00:06:22 on it. That's it's purpose to me though; if you *need* to contact me, use it and I'll call you back, otherwise leave a message for me at home. If the phone bill is horrendous, or the accoun info and other such stuff is wrong, well, I've got something dreadful (Bell) to compare it to.

HA! I believe it's fairly likely that the only thing I hate more then Bell Canada is dental work. These guys don't know their head from their asses.
Lou and I were getting cell phone bills of 300 dollars and they would each time I call suggest a plan that would work better to suit my needs, however they just juggled me between the same two plans over and over, charging me an eleven dollar fee each time to do so. Finally someone suggested a plan that was actually worth while for us to use and now we only pay 100. Thanks for mentioning it before you assholes!

It's just as considerate as their stupid little " Oh we're going to put a service u didn't ask for on your phone and then you have to call us to get it taken off or else we will charge you!"

i love their "free for 3 months*!" promos.

* you gotta call to get it disabled, and if you call one day late you get billed for a whole month anyways.

I have an addition to your **, Ssa - not so long ago, Bell literally was a monopoly; a government sanctioned one. They aren't technically a monopoly now, no, but years of propping by the feds and being given an unfair advantage at the onset have left them in a position to do basically whatever they want, while we wallow in their stupidity. ;)

Here is the scoop - the real scoop on what has happened at Bell (Bell Mobility, Sympatico, Nexia).
For the last 3.5 years Bell has quietly outsourced their Canadian IT knowledge-base including control of all Bell Mobility, Sympatico and Nexia's Customer Care and Invoicing System to an Israeli company named Amdocs. They rented a building on the WestMall and shipped in and housed hundred of Israelis during this 3.5 period to implement Ensemble. This third-party product cost so far $700 Million and counting. Furthermore, Bell has signed a 12 year deal worth a 'minimum' of $250 Million/yr to run this system. This is to replace their previous mainframe applications which management said cost Bell too much to run. The previous mainframe system was costing Bell 76 Million to run in 2002. So you can only guess the real reason of implementing this piece of crap. Why would any supposedly Canadian icon company outsource to this Israel - who then outsources to India!! - the most unstable part of the world. The only thing Bell IT does now is to ask Amdocs to implement changes and then deal for months on the cost$$ which is always in the millions. Do you know Amdocs charges Bell a minimum of $30K to make a simple price change to a rate plan??? God Dammit - this is where your money is going! Nice to know that your money is partially funding a part of the world which is rife with human-suffering and unstability. I worked for Bell for many years until last year I couldn't take it anymore. Amdocs runs the show now - all decisions, business plans etc must run throught them first. OH CANADA...I am ashamed. Please pass this on.. if you want more info please let me know.
PS. CHECK YOUR INVOICES - OVER AND OVER - Amdocs at last count had over 15,000 trouble tickets (bugs) reported during their testing phase.. about 300 critical bugs are still 'OPEN'. Hmmmm I am very confident about this system.
Thanks for letting me rant...
Why this isn't in the news is beyond me.. oh ya Bell controls the media too.

Need to know more?
Do you know that System Access Fee (SAF) you see either monthly or yearly on your bill?
Ever wonder what the hell that is and what value you are getting for being forced to pay this?
Well I will tell you.
System Access Fee was introduced when the cell business was ramping up in the early 90s. It was a $48/yr charge or $4/month. This was part of a deal brokered by Bell with the (hold you breath) CRTC. Why? Well the CRTC was threatening to regulate the Canadian cellular industry - so Bell bought them off - but with your money. So the value you are getting is ZIP! This is just another back door tax to the government to fund the CRTC.
But the story doesn't end. All customer service reps will never refer to SAF as a tax - they are instruction to always refer to it as a licensing fee. The original deal with CRTC was that Bell (and the industry) was to guarentee CRTC a fixed amount of money each year - which they worked out to $48/yr. As more subscribers sign-on (at that time there was 10,000 not millions like today) Bell would charge less SAF per subscriber as long as the guarenteed amount to CRTC was paid. WELL WE CAN ALL SEE WHAT HAS HAPPENED.
SAF has gone up to 80something/year and now there are millions of wireless users. The final joke is that Bell collects this money and ?does what with it?? Do they send it immediately to the CRTC? NOOOOO... They hold on to it in their accounts and only remit to the CRTC on a schedule - which used to be twice a year.. Think of that interest...hmmmmmmm forget 6/49.. we got SAF!!
LETS ALL GIVE A CHEER TO BELL!!!!!
BELL ROT IN HELL!
God, I am pissed off again!

That $48 lasted until I think 2002? Th
