RBC Screw Up Bigtime

My paycheque gets deposited into my RBC account every Wednesday morning at around 1:00 AM. So, on Tuesday I pay off my VISA bill thinking that my paycheque is coming the next day and the Rent will clear just fine.

Uh oh. RBC lost something like nine million transactions over night and my pay was one of them. People were leaving groceries at the store, and running out of gas due to lack of funds in the bank.

I posted in a babble the other day I may drop RBC. Looks like the time has come. If my rent bounces I'll unleash my pitiful wrath upon the CSR that takes my call. At least that's a joy. Maybe I can demand a letter of apology for me and my landlord...

you know, i heard about this a couple days ago, and kinda chuckled because of what you said about finding it hard to switch. I think the biggest problem with switching is that most people become so dependant on automagic elements of banking when it comes time, there are so many things to change.

The only automatic thing(s) i have are my student loans and my pay deposit. everything else I do when the time comes so should I need to switch (why? yet...) I've only got 2 things to switch, one of which I'll let come after me :)

But I also noticed the news coverage of this, which is quite large in my opinion, seems minimal. there are sparse articles, and lack of detail in them but really, is it going to blow over easily? they completely fucked a lot of people with a screwup like this.

When I first heard about the whole thing, I though 'Gee, I'm sure glad that I don't use Royal bank!'. Well, turns out that it doesnt matter if I do or not, because the company I work for does all its payroll through RBC, so I didn't get paid. Not only that, no one can tell me when I'll get paid, and my bank wont honor my paystub and move the money into my account, as some other banks will do.

So anyways, anyone want to buy a kidney? how about a lung? I have two of each, and I needs me some money!

CIBC has removed money from my bank accounts without authorization on two separate, unrelated occasions in my life. On one of these occasions, they actually took the money out of my TD account. I thought that was impossible, and I am still quite sure it was illegal, but nonetheless, they went ahead and did it. The other time involved a number of mysterious withdrawals from the account I had as a child of about 7 or 8, which the bank people could not explain, nor would they fix.

Scotia turned me down for an account, so they automatically suck, and that's that.

Bank of Montreal is excellent, except when they lose thousands and thousands of dollars by remitting them to the wrong payee or depositing them into the wrong account, and then take more than a month to right the wrong.

Rather than complaining, it would be easier for me to just say what *isn't* wrong with TD Canada Trust. But I'm not going to bother, because nothing comes immediately to mind.

And now there is this with RBC. Eventually I will get around to starting up a PC account. I already have an ING Direct account - but it's empty hehe. Kinda hard to start saving money when I don't have any to save...
