Gender Issues

Dear lord. It seems there isn't a day that goes by that people don't whine about gender issues. Ontario is among the biggest offenders in this sense.
Specifically, I'm talking about the bill which proposes to make it illegal to charge people different prices based on gender. Well, that all sounds logical enough, but we're talking about things like haircuts. Don't we have more important things for our politicians to be worrying about? Besides, the whole thing interferes with our basic rights. Democracy=Capitalism. Capitalism=free market. Therefore free market - free does not equal democracy. In fact, democracy - free = Ingsoc. and we all know where that leads.
The same law has existed in California for 9 years. Well good for them. You should all read Heinlein's Friday; it gives a very good idea of where California will be in a few years, due entirely to mushy socialist laws like this. Anyway: thoughts? Comments?

I read that book waaaaaay back in highschool on my Heinlein kick.
Cheap haircuts......niiiiice.
I am a little more concerned with the bunch that want to open our borders (U.S., Canada and Mexico) and "share" resources.

Ha this made me laugh the other day cause I've fought in the salon over my hair. When I had crazy short hair they tried to charge me "girl" price which was insane considering I had hair shorter then most men ( think Demi Moore in G.I Jane ). That being said I don't see why girls if they have long hair and want more complicated cuts shouldn't pay for it. Maybe instead of people getting riled up about girl cost boy cost, they should just have to pay for what they get. You have long hair and want a trim you pay for a trim, you have long hair and want some ziggy stardust hairdo, then you pay for that too.
ahem i think girls in free and drink free is great, cause all that happens is they get harassed by men so they deserve some free stuff...teehee

Who the fuck said anything about less-expensive hair cuts!? Guys will return to the at-home buzz cut that takes all of 5 min, and women will continue to go to the parlor where they'll continue to be charged an arm and a leg.
OR
Both genders will still frequent the parlor and low and behold all the prices for both genders will be the same: as high as women's costs. Why lose money when you can gain money?
Women ARE DIFFERENT, with respect to men. Pretending they're not is stupid. Pretending that because they are women they can't do X as well as a man, without emperical evidence (ie. weight lifting capacity), or because they are women they can do Y better than a man (ie. withstand physical pain), is of course unfair. But what's next, haircuts based on how much hair is removed?
This is so messed up.

my hair is longer than most women, if I go to the barber tomorrow and get it cut, it'll cost me $11 (or $12 or $13, maybe the price has gone up since I was there last... 5 years ago!) but I'm not going to get it styled or streaked or fancied up! If I wanted that shit, I'd expect to pay more. But, really what the hell is this post about?

My point is that anyone should be allowed to charge what they want for goods / services rendered. Yes, that means that women will often have to pay more for some things, that being the nature of supply and demand. Men will continue to pay for those phone sex things that women get the 800 numbers for. What pisses me off is the fact that government seemingly thinks this is a topic worthy of creating and debating a bill over when there's so much other crap going on in the world.

Well you guys thought it worthy enough to debate over.
Chew on that.

We're not paying for our debate with other people's tax dollars. Therein lies the difference.

but they're politicians. They debate stupid things all the time, this is one of the rare stupid (or is it?) ones that's made it to news.
