Ubuntu 7.10 - A Gutsy Annoyance

An annoyance that has occurred while upgrading some of my systems to Ubuntu 7.10:
My home directory has suddenly been litered with new directories.
Documents
Music
Pictures
Public
Templates
Videos
Normally this wouldn't bug me, but due to the case-sensitivity that is default on most Linux file systems, I ended up with duplicates. I already had a 'documents', 'music', 'pictures', and 'videos' folder... now I'm doubled up. It's a little annoying, but what can you do? I'm not exactly sure which portion of Gnome causes these new folders to be created, but personally I think it should check for lower-case equivalents. If I can figure out what actually causes it I'll file a bug...

The new directories are a result of Freedesktop.org's XDG specification. Read my full answer to your blog at I' Been to Ubuntu
Cheers, and enjoy Gutsy!!

and yay, a bug already exists but I have my doubts it'd get fixed.
Bug #138924 in xdg-user-dirs (Ubuntu): âNew 'Documents', 'Pictures', etc. folders ignore current folders of the same/similar nameâ
