Tomboy - Eeew

It's a minor gripe, but wtf? They've added support for bulleted lists in Tomboy. Which is great, mind you, but every time I start a line with a dash? Okay, again, maybe that's useful for some people. Would be more useful for me if they let the bullets cascade to different levels. But they don't. I want my fucking dash back.
Really the only problem is that it's not configurable. They didn't bother to add a checkbox or something so you can turn the damn things off if you liked it the way it was. It's this "user friendly" nonsense that made me want to leave Windows in the first place.

User friendliness in Windows drives me batty, but I find way more of it in some freeware (I am assuming tomboy is freeware, 'cause Linky uses it ;). In OpenOffice, it finished words for me. Not words like "Feb--" or "Sept..." but words like "believable" and "Lambasted" but it does this with only one or two letters at the front, so there is a good chance (some would say a monumental likelihood) that the word I've started to type and the word it thinks I want to type are two entirely different things. I guess it's not so bad, it only accepts the word if you hit enter, so as long as you don't end any lines with "be", you're pretty well fine. Damned annoying though; messes with flow and all that.
Oh, Ps, what is Tomboy?

Tomboy is an application for collecting 'notes'. Sorta like having stickey notes all over your monitor, but you use an application instead.

to get around this, i've just started using '[' to being my lines instead of '-'. it looks weird, and it's slightly less easy to type, but not a big deal.
Asrai, you're right about that Open Office thing, it drives me nuts too. i don't know if i'd go so far as to say you'll find more user-friendliness in open source software though. i think you're likely just taking advantage of many user-friendly features in Windows without even realizing that you should have more control over what's going on.

heh...
well, it's rendering engine is a text formatter markup called moinmoin (i think)
and if I'm right you should be able to disable it on a per-note basis by starting your note with {{{
I personally don't use tomboy or any sticky-note type app, so that's all I can offer :P
