Nature's Fury

There was a call for major thunderstorms today...which is awesome. I looked out the window to see rain being driven sideways, so my brother and I were said "COOL!"
So we go to run outside to stand in the wind and rain and be drenched because that's just awesome...and just in time to see the wind rip a branch the width of my leg right off the huge tree across the street. And, thankfully, not land on anyone or anything except the road.
And then I came back inside, closed all the windows, and came in here...and Peter Gabriel's Here Comes the Flood was on.
Talk about irony.

Yeah...and, the best part...it was actually a bloody tornado. A real bloody tornado. Went right across my friend's parents' lawn while they were out watching the rain. Ripped out their tree, too.
And I didn't see it, just the bit with the trees and the wind...bloody figures. We actually get a tornado around there (even just a piddly one), and it's on the other side of the bloody city.
Bloody figures.

Does your friend live near London, because that's the only place I could find information about there even being a possibility of Tornado activity yesterday. Sure, there were warnings and super high winds... but only one possible tornado.

Just found that article myself and came to post a link... nothing confirmed yet though.

funnel clouds are destructive enough, but the difference between that and a full tornado are pretty major...
it might have been an F0 or F1, but nothing more than that.. of course true confirmation will never really happen because the monitors required for that are few and far between.

I was in a staff meeting for most of the fun, 'cause god hates me.

Update: Not everyone was lucky. Just around the corner, there's a 150 year old tree uprooted and precariously balanced above someone's house on nothing but itself and the power-lines. According to the city at least 40 trees came down, and three of them are within walking distance of my house. We lucked out with just the branches coming down.
