Facebook just timed out on an AJAX transaction, and said this to me:
"Oops! Something went wrong. We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can. You may be able to try again."
I just sat here for the last ten minutes trying to come up with a message they could've used that would actually be more meaningless, yet comprised of syntactically valid English sentences. This is the best I could do:
"Fishes are often small. Oh no! There is a bag of chicken bits and shaved plastic in your left kidney. Monkeys have the lawnmower in Prague."
I'd say they're about on par. I mean, honestly... No shit something went wrong; I hit "view all comments" and nothing happened for 45 seconds. And no, you aren't working on fixing anything, because the fact that I'm seeing this error message means in all likelihood that your server never received a request... meaning that it's actually IMPOSSIBLE for you to even know it happened. And then, eh? I *may* be able to try again? Well thanks Schrödinger, that means a lot to me.
Someone got paid to think of that. And now I'm sad.

I always find it depressing when I realize what some people were paid to write. The people paying for the copy don't know enough English to know that what they're paying for is completely incorrect.
Not that their message was gramatically incorrect; just in no way helpful.

Well, they're probably paid to make non-technical error messages. Not helpful messages.
My ajax stuff usually says "shit, it's broken."

I was wondering where the lawnmower went.
